Healthy Homes
Keep It Dry
Provide drainage for footings and provide grading away from foundation.
Provide capillary break and free-draining backfill at foundation wall exterior and between footing and foundation wall.
Use rigid insulation under foundation slab and at slab perimeter, also on the exterior of foundation walls.
Provide 3" deep, washed stone under foundation slab/slab on grade.
Plantings near foundation should require no irrigation.
  Seal crawlspaces well.
Provide eaves of sufficient depth to shield side walls from rain.
Install sheathing wrap, lapped shingle style, over sheathing before installing exterior cladding or install a rain screen behind siding in addition to sheathing wrap.
Install pan flashing or membrane over bevel siding to direct water to the exterior, OR (Slab-on-grade) depress door thresholds 1" below slab surface
Use insulation with low air and vapor permeability for at least half the total insulation R-value.
Counter flash exterior wall sheathing wrap over roof shingle step flashing.
Install moisture resistant substrate behind tubs and showers-avoid paper faced gypsum board.
Insulate cold water pipes and air conditioning ducts.
  Properly size all HVAC units.
