The person behind
the practice

We are a a small but mighty team, led by architect and landscape designer, Christopher Royer, AIA. Long before sustainability was a buzzword, ecological design was Chris’s passion. He earned his Master of Architecture degree at the University of California-Berkeley, where he studied with renowned thought-leader, Christopher Alexander. Later he received a Certificate in Landscape Design from the Landscape Institute of the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. More recently, Chris completed the Cornell University program in Sustainable Preservation. A transplanted Midwesterner, he has made New England his home for over 30 years and currently resides in Providence, Rhode Island with his family.

Our philosophy of
right-sized design

We don’t believe in wasted space. Too often traditional homes are filled with forgotten rooms that you pay to heat, cool and clean, but rarely use. We take a “Just Enough House” approach that focuses on spatial efficiency. We design highly functional, intentionally compact home renovations that match your unique needs—bringing more life to every corner of your home.

Invest in what matters

By rightsizing your home’s footprint, we shift your investment from raw square footage to architectural character and function. Your budget goes toward things like abundant natural light, superior craftsmanship and sustainable materials that will stand the test of time.

Landscapes that work

We craft custom landscape designs that perfectly balance your lifestyle, architecture, and natural environment. By blending your home smoothly with the outdoors, we create intentional spaces that are neither overbuilt nor underutilized. Our purpose-driven solutions solve practical challenges like improving pollinator plantings, stormwater drainage and soil enhancement—protecting your investment and keeping your garden beautiful through every season.
